The Beautiful Neon Tetra

Hey fish lovers!

I'm very excited today to present this fish because it's one that I've owned in the past myself! This fish can be found at local fish stores, and are famous for their bright popping colors. Today's fish is the neon tetra!

This hardy little neon tetra fish was originally imported from South America, and it's popularity resulted in a thriving captive breeding trade in Hong Kong, Singapore, and Thailand! More than 1.5 million neon tetras are imported each month to the United States.

One of the most captivating characteristics of the neon tetra is their beautiful shoaling patterns! Typically, when 3 or more are introduced into a fish tank, they tend to stick together and add a beautiful pop to any aquarium full of plants due to the sharp contrast between their red and blue stripes against a green background!

These fish can get up to 4 cm (1.5 in) and have a life expectancy of 5 years!!!
